Final Project and math 3 reflection
For our final project in Math 3, I worked with my friend Marilyn on spirals and the Fibonacci sequence. I also worked on sheet music math. I already had some knowledge of the Fibonacci sequence, so it was nice to be able to teach my friend about it. I could not remember which famous mathematician studied rabbit breading, but in my research, I was reminded that it was indeed Fibonacci. For my sheet music project, I looked at the solfège and the rhythm counts of one of my favorite songs: "As If We Never Said Goodbye" from Sunset Boulevard. I liked that I could study math and sheet music together. For the project as a whole, I did not enjoy how little time, direction, and structure we had for this project, but I did like that we could choose whatever topic we wanted. If I could change anything, it would be to have a thorough project plan with a sufficient amount of time to complete it.
It is in my opinion that Math 3 did not have much to offer advanced math students because we had already taken classes on the content we were studying. However, throughout the year, there were some topics that we studied in which it was really nice to have a review of. Us advanced students did sometimes have the chance to teach math concepts to our friends and even to the class which was a really nice opportunity to grow and I wish we could have done more of it. I definitely feel better at teaching math to others and about the few topics I needed a reminder of. Math 3 felt to me to have a lot of homework and as an advanced math student, a lot of it felt like genuine busy work. There was so much homework for Math 3, that I had to make Math 3 a priority over Calculus (the math class that had new math content for me to learn) to get all of it done. I do feel prepared for Math 4, but I do not feel prepared for Calculus 2 as I was not able to focus on it as much as I would have liked.
